Pinner & Hatch End
Introduction to branch
Brighten up those dull autumn days by choosing a course from WEA Pinner & Hatch End’s exciting new programme. A return to the recently refurbished Pinner Community Centre will be welcomed by both students and tutors.
All the Branch venues are easily accessible by local bus and train routes and have facilities for the disabled.
New ventures include Psychology, Musicals and Latin American Fiction, with a Local History course to look forward to in January.
The West House Museum and Heath Robinson Museum is a new community resource and the Branch will take part in the opening celebrations with a Study Day on the artist’s life and work. It was originally intended to hold this Study Day in October, but at the last minute funding has come in that will allow a much-needed lift to be installed, and so the course has to be postponed. Details will be posted here when a new date has been fixed.
The WEA is committed to promoting equality and diversity. All are Welcome.

Branch News
With the support of Pinner Library we introduced computer training classes in autumn 2008. These have proved very popular, and the beginners' classes have led on to more advanced study covering Word, email and use of the internet. This programme will continue and will be expanded in 2009/2010. We have also introduced a popular and successful class on digital photography, which is also based in Pinner Library.
We have had to vacate (temporarily) our regular home at Pinner Youth and Community Centre while it's being refurbished by Harrow Council. In the meantime we have moved as many classes as possible into the smaller, but very comfortable, Pinner Village Hall next door. This has curtailed the number of classes, but we plan to resume some of these in January 2010 if the refurbishment is complete by then.
Meetings
The Branch Committee is responsible for planning the programme of classes, with assistance from the WEA's London Region which supplies suitably qualified tutors. The Branch Committee consists entirely of volunteers who have been elected at the Branch AGM. It meets several times a year.
The Branch will hold its AGM at Pinner Village Hall at 12:30 hrs on Tuesday 10 November 2009. The business meeting will be followed by a buiffet lunch at approximately 13:00 hrs. All Branch Members are welcome and there is no charge for attending the meeting or for lunch.
Events
In spring and summer 2010, there will be Saturday study days on specified topics. These will be held in Pinner Village Hall. Unfortunately due to a delay in completion of building works we are unable to offer these days.
Other Information
The Branch encourages its adult learners to assist with various aspects of the running of their class. Thus, each class needs a class secretary to keep the weekly attendance list and to liaise when necessary with the class tutor or the Branch Committee.
Also, a class may need one or more class members to help by setting up equipment and, at the end, storing it away.

Local History
The Branch is deeply involved in the local community and it intends to remain so. We are constantly looking for ways to improve the service we provide and to foster community spirit. We welcome ideas for new classes, for new approaches, and for ways in which we might improve and develop.
